Seed Bank Saves Rare Plant in Australia

Hey everyone! I'm waiting in line at the bank. You've been in a bank before,
right? It's where they keep lots and lots of money! (SFX: cha ching)
But today's story is about a different kind of bank. This bank doesn't keep
lots and lots of money, it keeps lots and lots of seeds!
A seed bank collects and keeps plant seeds from all around the world!
Seed banks are important because they can save plants that are sick or in
danger of disappearing forever. 種子銀行可以救生病或快滅絕的植物。
And this happened in Australia!
Did you guys hear about the recent fires in Australia?
你知道最近的澳洲大火災嗎? Now, you all know that fire is very dangerous,
right? Well, these fires were huge, very serious, and caused a lot of damage.
These types of fires are called bushfires. 這是一種叢林大火。Bushfires are
fires that burn through areas with a lot of grass and trees.
Bushfire會燒掉很多草跟樹木。These fires got so serious because the weather
was very hot and very dry.
The fires hurt people, and animals, and destroyed many homes.
這場火災傷害了很多人跟動物也摧毀了很多家園。They also hurt other wildlife
like plants, including a rare purple plant. 這場火災也燒到一種稀有的紫色藥草.
This plant was already very rare, so it was already very difficult to find.
So it was terrible when the fires burned up a lot of them!
And that's when a seed bank came to the rescue! (SFX: Heroic fanfare)
種子銀行就派上用場!
Luckily the seed bank had the seeds of the rare purple plant!
好險！種子銀行裡面有紫色藥草的種子. So they brought them to Australia,
planted a lot more, and saved the purple plant! And that's why I think seed
banks are pretty fantastic! I wonder how many different seeds they have.
